Romanians against the Dutch

The Romanian players, their constrained generating procedures, their play against the Dutch. a Dutch team on the up. Well organised, efficient, successful. can they counteract all these positive aspects?

The Romanian players show determination, perseverance. They put the extra inch in their personal clashes with their opponents. They never give up. There is something that spoils the Dutch team’s efforts at the final stage of their development, despite the integrity of the flow in their game.

Even this one by Roben in the 36th minute. The dutch showed his excellent skills only to be let down at the finishing touch. How come? Would that affect the Romanians efforts? Dilute their resolve? Undermine their confidence?

The spoilage of the Dutch attempts? Mean what? Romanians are confident, their composure intact. Unwilling to loose a player-to-player confrontation. Romanians ball passes with substance. They display variety in their game. They do not unfold their game in the same way all the time. There are the little changes in their attacks, seeds for new combinations, emergence of a new play. Exhaust their opponents counter- measures, their ability to predict, to foresee from where the attack and the final shot will come from. They stretch the Dutch players counteracting responses.

Spoiled again the Dutch attack, plenty of skill from van Persie, determination in his movements, but the Romanian goalkeeper managed to save the goal by exerting himself. Giving it an extra inch in his effort to deflect the ball.

Certainly the constant near misses of the Dutch would have abated the Romanians determination.

Focused Attempt by Romanian player. The follow-up of the game revealed signs of tiredness in the Romanian midfield, their waned. The goal for the Dutch came soon afterwards. 1-0  for Holland.

Romanians efforts now compromised, their resolve fizzling out.

Constrained generating procedures in a football game? Rolling the ball, passing the ball, assess space, asses own position in space, assess opponent players position in space, assess teammates position in space, assert the flow of the game, interrupt opponent team’s flow of the game.

The commentator noted for the Romanian players

" They are running out of ideas"

and again

"They were inventive with France"

statements that give the perspective for the efforts of football players in a game. The essence of the game and what makes the game interesting. New ideas, inventive, creative, improvising. All in an attempt to win a game. What you need to win a game. The football pitch a canvas where you draw … Draw what? Fractals? Fractals out of a combination of movements of players within the constrained space of the football pitch, in procedures developing in time? Procedures constrained by space and time, generating events. Sequence of events stuck one after the other to produce a flow? The flow of the game. Where all combines into a multi-dimensional fractal tapestry, with its repercussions on the spectators in the stadium as well as the viewers in many parts of the world? Multi-dimensional as it is additionally assumed by the multitude of people involved, extending its narrow spatial bounds.

Closure. Would that word and the meaning it carries, apply in the plot of the game and provides a reason as well as a clue of what is actually at play in a football game?

What would the chaotic actually be? The change in the usual mode of play individually or as a team?

The Dutch game. A well-oiled machine. Possess the same set of constrained generating procedures. By them executed to almost perfection. As perfect as they can be. Established attractors, executed with precision. Their outcome predicted. Predictable.

Gordon Strachan said

"There is no real conviction from the Romanians to stay in the tournament."

conviction the resource to pull out strength and stamina to win games?
